Galah, first stallion deal for Astute Bloodstock

Galah

Rangeview Stud has signed Darley's outstanding sprinter-miler Galah to stand at Bullsbrook this year.

Galah is a son of breed-shaping sire of sires Redoute's Choice and his dam Rinky Dink was a Group 1 winner of the Australasian Oaks.

Living right up to his pedigree, Galah was a brilliant two year-old winner at Rosehill and returned as a spring three year-old for black-type victories in the LR Australia Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and G3 VRC Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

He trained on at four to claim the G2 QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm in June last year.

"Galah meets the colonial Danehill sprinter-miler commercial pre-requisite with Group wins in quality company," Rangeview owner Rob Gray said. "I went to view him with Simon Vivian of Inglis and his advice was to just buy him.

"He has the performance, blood and presence to impose himself at stud. We are delighted to bring a prospect of his calibre to Western Australia and I would like to thank Darley for approaching us through bloodstock agent Louis Le Metayer."

Darley trainer Peter Snowden rated Galah among his top bracket of two year-olds in 2010-11. That was the season Sheikh Mohammed dominated the juvenile division with Sepoy and Helmet!

"He is a very nice horse and we haven't really done that much with him yet," Snowden said after his initial victory at Rosehill. "He's still learning and will get a lot better."
Galah fulfilled that promise at the Melbourne spring carnival. "You've only got to look at him to see he's a quality horse," Snowden said after he defeated top-class gallopers Masthead and Highly Recommended in the Australia Stakes.

The colt capped that campaign with a last-stride victory in the Carbine Club Stakes on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup carnival. "He had a good look down the straight before Kerrin woke him up," Snowden said at Flemington. "Then he ignited and lifted when it counted."

Galah bowed out last year with another powerful finish to defeat Conservatorium in the G2 QTC Cup in Brisbane. "He never runs a bad race," Snowden explained. "And he beat a pretty good horse today."

Only lightly-raced, Galah won 5 times in 21 starts and earned another 6 black-type placings for over $587,000 in prize money.

He is bred on the successful Redoute's Choice – Mr Prospector cross and will join emerging sire So Secret on a new-look Rangeview roster in 2014. Former resident Henny Hughes has been sold to Japan and Rangeview stalwart Key Business has been pensioned.

A service fee for Galah will be announced after the Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.

Owner/breeder won’t sell ‘special filly’, eyes up maiden Group 1

Peter Walsh, the owner of Amelia Park Racing, claims he has no interest in selling unbeaten filly Amelia’s Jewel and is hoping the rising star of the turf can hand him his Group 1 victory. Longtime owner/breeder Peter Walsh is adamant Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni {Fr}) is the best horse he has had anything to do with. The Simon Miller-trained 3-year-old kept her perfect record intact on Saturday, scoring a gutsy first-up win in the Listed Belgrave S. at Ascot.

The three-year-old Siyouni filly Amelia's Jewel extended her unbeaten sequence to four with a gutsy win at her seasonal debut in Saturday's Listed Drummond Golf-Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot. Amelia Park's Peter Walsh purchased Bumbasina (IRE) for 76,000 guineas at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale through Astute Bloodstock. He sent her to Siyouni to southern hemisphere time, and Amelia's Jewel is the result.
